India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 0.35%

Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Auto, IT and Banking sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.35%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.33%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Dr Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY), which rose 2.53% or 34.30 points to trade at 1,389.45 at the close. Meanwhile, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) added 2.48% or 73.80 points to end at 3,049.45 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) was up 2.30% or 21.45 points to 953.40 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC), which fell 1.81% or 11.35 points to trade at 617.40 at the close. Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) declined 1.58% or 6.10 points to end at 380.50 and State Bank Of India (NS:SBI) was down 1.58% or 12.80 points to 799.65.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which rose 2.47% to 3,050.00, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was up 2.41% to settle at 954.60 and Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which gained 1.73% to close at 753.65.

The worst performers were State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was down 1.37% to 800.50 in late trade, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which lost 0.93% to settle at 139.05 and UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:ULTC) which was down 0.72% to 11,375.05 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1291 to 1197 and 154 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1949 fell and 1838 advanced, while 116 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 5.72% to 13.23.

Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.51% or 13.46 to $2,640.44 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.45% or 0.31 to hit $69.93 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.33% or 0.24 to trade at $73.09 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.37% to 85.59, while EUR/INR rose 0.65% to 89.15.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.03% at 107.92.
