U.K. stocks higher at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 up 1.00%

Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Mining, Household Goods & Home Construction and Construction & Materials sectors led shares higher.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 1.00%.

The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB), which rose 6.06% or 186.00 points to trade at 3,258.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BTRW) added 4.66% or 22.00 points to end at 494.00 and Entain PLC (LON:ENT) was up 4.55% or 31.00 points to 712.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Rentokil Initial PLC (LON:RTO), which fell 2.54% or 8.90 points to trade at 341.10 at the close. Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML) declined 2.23% or 62.00 points to end at 2,714.00 and Informa PLC (LON:INF) was down 2.15% or 17.80 points to 809.20.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1022 to 773 and 668 ended unchanged.

Shares in Rentokil Initial PLC (LON:RTO) fell to 3-years lows; falling 2.54% or 8.90 to 341.10.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.24% or 6.30 to $2,685.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.18% or 0.13 to hit $70.45 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.04% or 0.03 to trade at $74.22 a barrel.

GBP/USD was down 0.59% to 1.30, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.40% to 0.84.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.22% at 103.29.
